Meet Reilly

Reilly (she/they) 27

@kid.cis.ter

I am a queer country mouse with a Printmaking/Fibers BFA from Indiana University. I started documenting all types of things as a kid with drawing/painting, then moving into sculpture, print and textiles later in my career. As the practice grew I found myself enjoying the process of curating spaces for art experiences  and I find tattooing to be an extension of that. Private studios and DIY spaces allow for these immersive experiences to take shape.

My flash consists of themes that encourage the wearer to emotionally engage with the imagery rather than wear the image for purely aesthetic reasons. I enjoy textile motifs, knitting, esoteric imagery, antiques, filigree, quilting patterning and cross stitch. Some of the flash is sketchy journal entries, renditions of artwork by prominent artists (Aubrey Beardsley, Henri Matisse, Kiki Smith), and images found in older books.

The subjects I chose highlight the mundane aspects of midwestern living. Through body modification, I feel as though I am able to take possession of these themes I am sentimentally attached to that might otherwise feel distant and divorced from queer identity.
